Manhattan Beach Mayor Richard Montgomery has been named president of the board of the Independent Cities Association, an organization made up of 41 member cities from the Southern California area.
Montgomery replaces outgoing president Nils Nehrenheim of Redondo Beach.
“I am very excited to serve
as the new president of ICA,” said Montgomery. “Together, I want to
continue the good work Nils did and grow and expand the organization so
that more cities can benefit by working with
one another. Our motto is ‘cities helping cities’ and that is exactly
what we are going to continue to do in the upcoming year.”
The installation ceremony for new board members was held at the MBS Media Campus in Manhattan Beach.
At the ceremony, guests were entertained by
local Manhattan Beach musician John Dietz. The evening culminated with board members being
sworn in by retired Los Angeles County Supervisor
Don Knabe. The new executive board includes both Montgomery and
Nehrenheim, as well as President-Elect Mark Henderson of Gardena, Vice
President Ray Jackson of Hermosa Beach, Treasurer David Fredendall of
Glendora, and Mary Solorio of San Fernando.
ICA is a 501
(c)(3) nonprofit, public benefit corporation created in 1960. The
organization focuses on public safety, education,
legislative advocacy, intergovernmental relationships, and other major
issues that transcend the boundaries of its member cities. ICA holds
two annual seminars, bringing together city council members, other city
officials, and business partners for the purpose
of collaboration, networking, and knowledge exchange. ICA's Winter
Seminar (held in January) addresses public safety and its Summer Seminar
(held in June) focuses on contemporary issues.
