Parents to Battle on the Links for a Good Cause

Sep 29, 2024 09:41PM ● By Mb News Staff
If there's one thing Manhattan Beach schools and sports boosters have figured out, it's that raising funds works best when it's fun.

Now supporters of the Mira Costa golf team are following in the tradition of popular fundraisers for soccer and softball by staging a new kind of competition.

On Sunday, October 20th, they're hosting the first annual "Costa Cup" competition at The Lakes and TopGolf in El Segundo.

Parents are invited to form teams to represent their schools in the friendly competition, just as they do for the annual Goodrich soccer tournament and Parents' Softball Classic. Both of those events inspire good-natured battles for bragging rights, and each has drawn dozens of repeat players who keep on coming – till their bodies betray them.

Funds raised through the Costa Cup competition will support both the boys' and girls' golf teams at Mira Costa. Per the organizers:
  • Each Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach school will form 2 foursomes of parents
  • Team scoring: Each team's score is tallied by the low score per hole within each foursome; lowest total wins
  • Caddies will be available for a fee (team members from Costa golf teams)
In addition, there will be food and beverage catered by Top Golf, and a silent auction.

While the registration system is designed for teams to register as a group under a team leader, you can register individually, noting school affiliation to be referred to a team.

Early-bird registration ($175 per player requested) is open through Friday, Oct. 4. Registration closes Oct. 15 for the Oct. 20 event. The tournament runs 10am-3pm, with tee times assigned after registration closes.
