Mira Costa High School's Drama is set to present its fall drama, Anatomy of Gray, debuting on Friday night at the school's small theater.

The play follows young June, who, after losing her father, wishes for a healer to save her small town. When a mysterious doctor arrives in a balloon, hope quickly turns to chaos. According to its organizers, the poignant story weaves themes of loss, love, and healing into a compelling coming-of-age tale.

“Every year, we reflect on our recent seasons to identify new challenges and diversify the genres we offer," said director and co-producer Jonathan Westerberg. "After two years of comedic productions, we chose Anatomy of Gray for its relevant themes and the rich, dramatic roles it offers our actors—providing them with deeply emotional material set against gritty circumstances."

To prepare for the production, the cast worked with dialect coach and actor William Salyers to master the challenging late-19th-century Indiana dialect. Salyers has also worked with Jim Leonard, the author of Anatomy of Gray, and was able to share insights behind the writing of the play.

And if the costumes look familiar, you may have seen them at the Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair. Longtime Mira Costa Drama/Tech costume designer Allison Gerber had two of the costumes on display at the fair's art showcase.
