Just in time for the holidays - and in time for you to amass quantities of hard-to-recycle items, the specialty pickup recycling service Ridwell is expanding its services to Manhattan Beach. 

Ridwell specializes in items such as plastic film, textiles and clothing, shoes, lightbulbs, and batteries. They work with with dozens of partners across eight markets for responsible recycling and reuse, aiming to fill a gap in recycling materials that aren’t accepted by regular curbside programs and often end up in landfills or incinerators.

When you subscribe to Ridwell, they give you bags to collect those specialty items, and they come pick them up from your doorstep once every two weeks.

Every other week, they also feature a special category, usually focused on reuse. Those items, such as electronic devices, children’s books, sports equipment, toiletries, etc. are collected to benefit local community groups. 

Recent local drives include warm winter clothing collected for Casa Milagros and L.A. Family Housing in October, and a current denim drive for Casa Milagros running through December 22.
