High Winds Spur Warnings for Manhattan Beach, South Bay

Jan 07, 2025 09:24AM ● By Mb News Staff
The threat of high winds on Tuesday and Wednesday has resulted in warnings across Los Angeles County, including the South Bay and Manhattan Beach.

The National Weather Service has predicted "destructive, widespread, and potentially life-threatening windstorms" starting on Tuesday afternoon and lasting through at least Wednesday afternoon.

Unusually heavy wind gusts may reach up to 50-80 miles per hour in the South Bay and up to 80-100 miles per hour in the most heavily impacted areas in the mountains and foothills of Los Angeles.

The most immediate effect for Manhattan Beach is the danger of downed trees and branches. If possible, park cars away from trees and other objects that could cause a hazard if dislodged.

Residents are also advised to secure or store loose items such as patio furniture, umbrellas, sports gear, trampolines, and lightweight trash cans to prevent them from blowing away.

Furthermore, there is a risk of scattered power outages. If you see a downed power line, stay away and report it here (click on the yellow button).

Strong winds are also expected to impact harbors and ocean waters, so mariners are urged to be cautious.

On Tuesday, the Manhattan Beach Farmers Market is still planning to go forward as scheduled, for its regular 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. hours.
