Save Water in Manhattan Beach With this One Cool Trick
Mar 21, 2025 06:26PM ● By Mb News Staff
March 22 is World Water Day, and you can observe the occasion in one simple step, by setting up a water consumption tracking app offered by the city of Manhattan Beach.
Through My Water Advisor, a water consumption portal, water customers can track their daily water consumption, compare water usage to other households, and even set up leak alerts.
This tracking is made possible through the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Project, which effectively replaced all 13,500 water meters throughout the city in 2022 with "smart" technology meters capable of wireless daily consumption reads. (Prior to the project, water meters were manually read every two months.)
These "smart" meters now allow for utility customers to track their household's individual water usage through the My Water Advisor app. You can sign up with your account number or with the phone number associated with your account.
Currently, about 10 percent of Manhattan Beach customers are enrolled. (Can we bring it higher?) MB News heard from two different current users of the app who both said that the app helped them detect water leaks.
