What's Lurking in Your Hedges, Manhattan Beach?

Is there something sinister lurking in your hedges? Manhattan Beach police are warning of a "trail camera" that was discovered in a homeowner's hedges during a recent burglary investigation. Burglars apparently used the camera to surveil their potential targets.

Although such cases are rare, the technique is not new. One high-profile case in Alhambra last year brought renewed attention to the issue.

These types of cameras are small and usually attached to a portable battery pack. They can either store data in a memory card, or connect to a mobile wifi.

MBPD is asking residents to check bushes and shrubbery around their homes for any such devices, and of course to call police if they find anything suspicious. Call 9-1-1 for emergencies, or call (310) 545-4566 for non-emergencies.

Further recommendations to help prevent burglaries include keeping hedges and bushes trimmed, and to install good lighting.

Residents are also urged to connect with Neighborhood Watch.
