Registration Now Open for Manhattan Beach 6-Man Tournament

Jun 02, 2025 02:33PM ● By Mb News Staff
Registration is now open for Manhattan Beach's popular Charlie Saikley 6-Man Beach Volleyball Tournament, to be held this year on Friday and Saturday, August 1-2.

The lively competition involves teams of six vying for bragging rights, with many teams rocking colorful and humorous costumes.

Registration is $650 for a six-person team in the "Open" age group. Mens' teams in the 40+ and 50+ age groups, and womens' teams in the 35+ and 45+ age groups cost $350.

The tournament is named for the late Charlie Saikley, known as "Godfather of Beach Volleyball," who more than 49 years ago brought the tournament to the South Bay.

Through his work with Parks and Recreation, Saikley created the first city-organized volleyball instruction program in Southern California and worked largely with the city’s youth introducing them to the sport.

He was legendary with the creation of tournaments that focused on the core components of beach volleyball: world-class talent combined with the beach lifestyle. In a nod to his original vision for the event that began in 1974, his family has worked alongside the Manhattan Beach Parks and Recreation Department to bring back the all-age inclusive, family-friendly feel to the event.

2025 also marks the eleventh year of the Jr. 6-Man, which will take place on Sunday, August 3. The youth tournament, which costs $150 per team, also aims to embrace the culture of costume-oriented team participation.
