Help Kids Have the Best Day Ever in Manhattan Beach

Aug 31, 2025 08:48AM ● By Jeanne Fratello

Though most of us see the beach every day, there are some kids who have never seen the beach at all. So here's your chance to help some kids have a best-ever beach day, with two local organizations looking for volunteers: the P.S. I Love You Foundation and Culture Club South Bay.

P.S. I Love You Foundation's Day at the Beach

The P.S. I Love You Foundation's Day at the Beach, sponsored by Fabletics, will take place on September 6 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The annual event brings together 300 children ages 5-12 from L.A. County's most vulnerable communities with more than 300 adult mentors.

The day's activities include swimming, crafts, face painting, cupcake making, relay races, and beach fun. Registration includes an event t-shirt, lunch, snacks, a Fabletics water bottle, and access to all activities.

Register here to serve as a mentor or as an event volunteer. (The event is held on the beach in Manhattan Beach, but it is private, so registration is required.)

The nonprofit P.S. I Love You Foundation, founded in 1998 by Manhattan Beach's Patricia Jones, reaches 650–1,000 of LA County’s most underserved K–12 students annually. The foundation aims to equip kids with emotional resilience, empathy, communication, leadership, and self-worth

Culture Club South Bay's Fall Camp Sessions

Culture Club South Bay, a non-profit organization based in Manhattan Beach, is offering a fall camp that will take place on September 6, 13, 20, and 27 at Lifeguard Tower 26 in Manhattan Beach.

This fall’s programming will include recreation and experiences such as volleyball, surfing, arts, education and ocean awareness. All of the programming is led by volunteer community leaders, experts, and speakers who aim to engage youth in empowering activities, education, and movement.

The organization is seeking volunteers ages 14 and up to help with registration, monitoring youth activities and ensuring smooth transitions for families and participants. Food is provided free to all volunteers. Those who wish to participate may sign up to volunteer here.

Culture Club's camp sessions take place at the site of the original Bruce’s Beach in Manhattan Beach, with the intent of uplifting the legacy of the historic site while also providing education. The programming is offered free of charge to families; founder and project lead Allison Hales raised more than $10,000 in one week needed to operate camp this fall.

The group has a new partnership this year with Heal The Bay, which will engage participants in efforts that encourage them to be environmental stewards. The group will also continue its long-time partnership with the Surfrider Foundation South Bay Chapter.

Culture Club, founded in 2020, began its first youth engagement camp in fall 2021 with a goal of uniting youth by creating inclusion through surfing, volleyball, arts, education, and culinary experiences. As Culture Club expands, it is preparing to offer a spring 2026 session in Hermosa Beach.
