Trinity Lutheran Church of Manhattan Beach has announced the appointment of two longtime Manhattan Beach musicians - Gordon Glor as director of music and Karla Devine as organist. Both will be formally installed during a special worship service on Sunday, November 23, the Festival of Christ the King, at 10:00 a.m.

Together, Glor and Devine will serve as a team to lead the church’s choirs, expand opportunities for participation, lead the congregation’s song, and strengthen the congregation’s community connection through music and worship.

Glor serves on the faculty of the Manhattan Beach Unified School District, where he is the choral accompanist for both the middle and high school choral programs. A gifted educator and accomplished pianist, Glor holds a degree in composition and piano performance from the Manhattan School of Music, and has pursued advanced studies in piano performance and choral conducting. Beyond his work in education, Glor is an active performer and collaborator in the Los Angeles music community, including his role as a member and accompanist with the acclaimed Angel City Chorale, known for its uplifting performances and appearances on national and international stages.

Karla Devine is a beloved figure in the South Bay’s musical life and a longtime resident of Manhattan Beach. She was instrumental in the installation of the church’s renowned Dobson Pipe Organ, Opus 56—the first Dobson organ installed on the West Coast—a defining moment in Trinity’s musical history. Devine holds a degree in music education and has dedicated her career to teaching and inspiring musicians of all ages, particularly through early childhood music education. She also directs one of the region’s longest-running community concert series, bringing exceptional performances to local audiences. Devine is also known nationally and throughout the Los Angeles region as she serves on the boards of the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians and the local Los Angeles Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.

“The appointment of Gordon and Karla represents both a renewal and a continuation of Trinity’s deep musical tradition,” said Rev. Douglas Barclay, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church. “Their talents, decades of community engagement, and shared commitment to excellence will enrich our worship and help us continue to proclaim God’s grace through the beauty of sacred music.”

The installation service on November 23 will include festive choral music, congregational hymns, and organ works celebrating the legacy and future of music at Trinity Lutheran Church. All are welcome to attend.
