Know Your Manhattan Beach Holiday Closures and Pickup Schedules

During the holiday week, schedules for many municipal functions will be on an altered schedule. Here's what you need to know: 

City-Related Closures and Schedules


Manhattan Beach Emergency Services: Regular operations; will not close.

Manhattan Beach City Offices: City offices will close early on Wednesday, December 24, at noon, and remain closed through Thursday, December 25. Normal business hours will resume on Friday, December 26, at 8:00 a.m.

Manhattan Beach City-Run Facilities: Joslyn Community Center, Manhattan Heights Community Center, Sand Dune Park exercise area, Begg Pool, Manhattan Beach Art Center (MBAC), and Live Oak Park Ceramics Studio will all be closed on Christmas Day. Tennis and pickleball courts will run on a first come, first served schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Manhattan Beach Trash Pickup: Waste Management observes the Christmas Day holiday and a modified residential refuse schedule will be in place for collection days December 25-27. Thursday's route will be collected on Friday, December 26 and Friday's route will be collected on Saturday, December 27.

Manhattan Beach Street Sweeping: Street sweeping will not take place on Thursday, December 25 only, and will not be made up. All other sweeping days that week will operate on a normal schedule and route. The Police Department will not cite vehicles for street sweeping purposes on December 25 only. 

Manhattan Beach Schools: MBUSD is on holiday break until Monday, January 5. 

Holiday Lights and Tree Pickup


Curbside tree collection for residents will take place on regular collection days from December 26 through January 10. Trees should be placed at the curb or in the green waste cart for collection and must adhere to the collection guidelines:

  • Trees must be no taller than 7 feet or cut into 7-foot sections (Waste Management and City employees cannot trim trees)
  • All decorations including tinsel, lights, ornaments, and tree stands must be removed
  • Flocked trees will be collected but cannot be recycled

Artificial Trees: Artificial or "fake" trees can be collected by Waste Management as part of their bulky item program. To schedule a bulky item pick up for an artificial tree, contact Waste Management directly at (310) 830-7100.

Holiday Lights: Holiday lights and other electronic waste can be collected by Waste Management as part of their bulky item program. To schedule a bulky item pick up, contact Waste Management directly at (310) 830-7100.

Additional Materials: Residents can place bags of additional trash, recycling, or organic waste (not bulky items) next to their corresponding carts for collection day from December 26 through January 10 at no additional charge.
