As the Tour de Pier gears up for its 14th year, it has collaborated with local artists for a unique art exhibit and bike giveaway.

Five custom-painted bikes will be on display at select South Bay businesses from March 25 to April 29, in preparation for the Tour de Pier on May 17. Take and share a photo of one of the bikes, and you could have a chance to win one.

“We want to express our deepest gratitude to the talented South Bay artists who use the power of art to bring our community together and to the sponsors who made this project possible,” said Heath Gregory, co-founder of the Tour de Pier. “Their passion, creativity, and community spirit are truly inspiring.”

The bike locations and dates include:

  • Bay Club, 2250 Park Pl., El Segundo (artist Wendy Stillman)
  • Skechers, 1121 Manhattan Ave., Manhattan Beach (artist Derek Billings)
  • (Coming April 8) Love.Life, 740 Pacific Coast Hwy., El Segundo (artist Dan Gardner)
  • (Coming April 15Rock & Brews,143 Main St., El Segundo (artist Josh Barnes)
  • (Coming April 22Manhattan Village (in front of the Apple Store), 3200 N. Sepulveda Blvd., Manhattan Beach (artist Tom Neill)

“It is an honor to be involved in The Art of the Ride,” said Manhattan Beach-based artist Wendy Stillman. “It brings together two of my favorite things, art and making a difference for others. We have all been touched by cancer, and being able to channel that into my art, and this incredible public installation is a joy.” She added, “The Tour de Pier builds community to support cancer fighters, and The Art of the Ride strengthens and builds that community across the South Bay. Plus, custom spin bikes make exercise more fun.”

To enter to win one of the bikes, visit an Art of the Ride location (March 25 to April 29), take a snapshot of the custom-painted bike, and post on social media tagging @TourdePier and the business location. Each photo of a different bike earns one entry into the giveaway; post all five bikes and earn three bonus entries. Entries close on May 4.

Participants must follow @TourdePier on Instagram and Facebook to be eligible and public accounts must be used for entries to be visible. Participants must be 18 years or older to enter; no purchase or donation is required. The winners will be contacted via social media, and the bike will be available (for local pickup only) after the Tour de Pier.

The Tour de Pier will be held on Sunday, May 17 at the Manhattan Beach Pier. The award-winning fundraiser benefits three nonprofit charities: the Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, Cancer Support Community South Bay, and the Uncle Kory Foundation for brain cancer research. Since 2013, Tour de Pier has raised more than $15 million for cancer research and support services.
