As Mira Costa High School's Drama/Tech Department prepares for its spring production of "Mean Girls," those who buy tickets can get free "Mean Girls"-themed treats from local restaurants. 

The smash-hit musical based on the iconic Paramount Pictures film follows Cady Heron, a newcomer to the suburban jungle of Illinois, as she infiltrates "The Plastics," a trio of frenemies who rule the school’s social hierarchy. 

This year’s spring show features 44 Mira Costa cast members who have been immersed in over 16 weeks of rehearsals and a crew of more than 25 students who provide all of the technical support during pre-production and the show’s run. The orchestra pit also features 10 Mira Costa music students and alumni.

The production will have a total of eight showings in the Mira Costa auditorium: on Friday, April 24 at 7:00 p.m.; on Saturday, April 25 at 7:00 p.m.; on Wednesday, April 29 at 4:00 p.m; on Thursday, April 30 at 6:00 p.m.; on Friday, May 1 at 7:00 p.m.; and on Saturday, May 2 at 2:00 and 7:00 p.m.

Residents of Manhattan Beach aged 55 and older can enjoy performances free of charge by registering through the Be Our Guest program offered by the City of Manhattan Beach and the Manhattan Beach Unified School District.

"Mean Girls" is the latest in a long line of high-quality productions from Mira Costa High School's Drama/Tech Department. Mira Costa was recently among only 12 schools nationally to be recognized by the Educational Theatre Association for displaying outstanding commitment to theatre education. In addition, the Mira Costa VAPA (Visual and Performing Arts) department was recognized with the California Exemplary Arts Education Award, one of the state’s highest honors celebrating excellence in arts education. Presented by the California Department of Education, the award recognizes schools that demonstrate outstanding achievement in arts instruction and a strong commitment to ensuring all students have access to high-quality, standards-aligned arts programs.
