What's ahead for the city of Manhattan Beach? The 2026 State of the City event, presented by the Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce, will center on a “Future Forward” theme with a look at the city’s upcoming projects and initiatives. The program will also offer a special look at the global spotlight on the FIFA World Cup, and how this international event will shape the local economy, public safety, and community experience in 2026 and beyond.

The State of the City event will be held on Thursday, April 30, from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Westdrift Hotel in Manhattan Beach. For tickets, please visit the State of the City registration site.

The program will be introduced by John Thorrington, Manhattan Beach resident and co-president and general manager of Los Angeles Football Club. Featured speakers include:

  • Manhattan Beach Mayor David Lesser
  • Manhattan Beach City Manager Talyn Mirzakhanian
  • MBUSD Board Trustee Tina Shivpuri
  • Manhattan Beach Chief of Police Rachel Johnson
  • Former International Soccer Player and FOX Sports Commentator Alexi Lalas
  • Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Jill Lamkin

Key topics will include public safety planning for the World Cup and Olympics, including the Manhattan Beach Police Department’s use of new first responder drone technology; insights into the expected influx of international visitors and fan activity; and strategies for local businesses to maximize opportunities tied to increased global tourism.

Lalas will also provide an insider’s perspective on what Manhattan Beach can expect as a host-adjacent community during the World Cup—from fan enthusiasm to citywide activation.

The event will begin with a brief pre-event reception for sponsors. Following the program, all ticketed attendees are invited to enjoy a hosted cocktail reception on the outdoor patio.
