The Roundhouse Aquarium in Manhattan Beach has been selected by Lazy Acres Natural Market as a beneficiary of not one but two environmental rewards programs.
The Roundhouse Aquarium Teaching Center (the aquarium's formal name), operated by Oceanographic Teaching Stations, Inc., was chosen for both the 1% for the Planet partnership and the Envirotoken community‐giving program. Funding from the initiatives will support the Roundhouse Aquarium’s mission to deliver hands-on marine science education and inspire ocean stewardship across Southern California.
“At Lazy Acres, we’re committed to supporting organizations that make a meaningful impact in our local communities,” said Robin Nardello, community programs manager for Lazy Acres Natural Market. “The Roundhouse Aquarium plays an essential role in connecting young people to the ocean and inspiring environmental responsibility. We’re proud to partner with them through both our 1% for the Planet and Envirotoken programs.”
“Lazy Acres’ support strengthens our ability to bring hands-on ocean
science education to students of all backgrounds,” said Grace Adams,
executive director of the Oceanographic Teaching Stations, Inc. “Being
selected for both the 1% for the Planet and Envirotoken programs
reflects not only Lazy Acres’ commitment to environmental education, but
also the community’s belief in the work we do. We are deeply grateful
for this partnership.”
1% for the Planet
Lazy Acres’ 1% for the Planet partnership directs a portion of its private label and bulk sales to local environmental nonprofits in each of the communities that it serves. According to program sponsors, the Roundhouse Aquarium was chosen for its long-standing impact in connecting students and visitors with marine life through immersive, science‐based learning experiences.
Community‐Selected Envirotoken Program
For the second year in a row, the Roundhouse Aquarium was also selected as one of six nonprofit recipients of Lazy Acres’ Envirotoken program to receive monthly donations from July 2025 through June 2026. Envirotoken recipients are chosen entirely by community vote, and the Roundhouse earned its place thanks to strong support from local shoppers. Through this program, customers who bring reusable bags receive tokens they can donate to the Roundhouse, turning sustainable shopping habits into direct support for ocean education. The Roundhouse will again be up for nomination on the Lazy Acres Hermosa Beach ballot with voting beginning in late April.
