The 14th Annual Tour de Pier in Manhattan Beach hit its fundraising target after Sunday's ride, raising more than $1.5 million for three non-profits dedicated to critical cancer research and support services.

“We are humbled by the outpouring of support from our sponsors, partners, donors, and community who came together to make a difference in helping save lives,” said Lisa Manheim, co-founder of the Tour de Pier, in a statement. “Contributions raised will help fund much-needed research and provide education and patient advocacy programs to uplift and strengthen those impacted by this disease.”

Thousands of people made their way to the Manhattan Beach Pier, where cyclists of all ages and skill levels took to their bikes, pedaling and sweating for a cancer cure while overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

Highlights of the day included five cycling sessions led by top local spin instructors and family-friendly live entertainment, including a show-stopping, choreographed airplane flyover performance, a Coast Guard helicopter fly-by, and a high school marching band.

Celebrity riders included Paul Stanley (rock band KISS), Rob Stone (legendary sportscaster), Alexi Lalas (1994 FIFA World Cup™ soccer player, sports analyst, U.S. soccer legend), Mia Hamm (former USWNT Soccer Player and owner of Angel City FC), Denzel Perryman (Los Angeles Chargers), Willie McGinest (three-time NFL Super Bowl Champ), Craig Smith (former NBA player),  Jaren Lewison (actor, Never Have I Ever). In addition, representatives from LA sports teams cheered on the riders, including mascots from the LA Kings, LA Galaxy, and LA Clippers, plus coaches, including Eric Musselman (USC Head Basketball Coach) and Pete Carroll (NFL coaching icon).

In between the ride sessions, riders and spectators enjoyed the free Health & Fitness Expo centered around the World Cup™, with activations from local sports teams, premium wellness brands, and more.

“Seeing the support of everyone riding, cheering, and listening to shared personal stories throughout the day reminded me of what we can achieve when we collectively unite for a common goal,” said Heath Gregory, co-founder of the Tour de Pier. “We are appreciative of the incredible support from the community and for helping us grow to what we are today. That kindness and generosity make all the difference.”

The Tour de Pier benefits the Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, Cancer Support Community South Bay, and the Uncle Kory Foundation for brain cancer research. These charities provide collaborative research in early detection methods, improve treatments, offer the latest resources for cancer-related information, and ultimately work toward finding a cure.

Since debuting in 2013, the Tour de Pier has raised more than $16 million for cancer charities.
