6-Man Tournament Draws Thousands to Manhattan Beach

The annual Charlie Saikley 6-Man tournament, the premier 6-man
beach volleyball tournament in Southern California, drew thousands to Manhattan Beach on Friday morning. The tournament continues on Saturday, and the Junior 6-Man takes place on Sunday.
Known for colorful costumes and spirited rivalries, the tournament pits teams of six against each in heated beach volleyball competition. There are men's open and women's open divisions, as well as masters' divisions for both men and women.
The tournament draws more than 50,000 spectators each year, filling up downtown Manhattan Beach bars, restaurants, and shops.
Shellback Tavern, the unofficial home of 6-Man revelers, has announced that due to the crowds packing the beachfront bar, there will be no phone or to-go orders taken. Shellback is expected to serve 10,000 of its trademark Fanta shots during the 6-Man.
The Arthur J, known for its high-end steakhouse dining, is opening its patio BBQ over the weekend and will be serving up custom burgers.
Also just in time for the 6-Man, the restaurant Great White is officially opening this weekend (in the former Pitfire location).

- Upper Pier Parking Lots (North and South) (reopen Sunday, August 2, 12:00 p.m.)
STREETS:
- Manhattan Beach Boulevard (MBB) from Ocean Drive to MB Pier (reopen Monday, August 3, 10:00 a.m.)
(MBPD may close MBB from Ocean Drive to Manhattan Avenue, based on traffic congestion) - Ocean Drive from 11th Street to 12th Street (reopen Sunday, August 2, 6:00 p.m.)
