The work of the Manhattan Beach Fire Department doesn't stop at Manhattan Beach's borders: Two Manhattan Beach firefighters have been deployed to assist in efforts to combat the MP18 Fire in Humboldt County. 

MBFD's deputy fire chief and one of its division chiefs have been deployed to the MP18 Fire, serving as Branch X Safety Officers with a statewide strike team.

The MP18 fire is currently 71% contained and has burned 7,610 acres. The fire started on August 7 and is believed to have been caused by a person. 

The Manhattan Beach firefighters are expected to return at the end of this week, based on routine deployment time frames, according to a city spokesperson. 

Manhattan Beach firefighters have been deployed to fight major wildfires in the past; notably in September 2020 for the Creek Fire, the Dolan Fire, and the Bobcat Fire; and again in December 2020 for the Bond Fire.
