Manhattan Beach Was Site of Most Lifeguard Rescues in Summer 2026

Oct 01, 2026 12:44AM ● By Jeanne Fratello
The L.A. County Lifeguards have reported that more ocean rescues occurred in Manhattan Beach in summer 2026 than any other county beach, marking nearly one out of every four rescues.

L.A. County Ocean Lifeguard Specialist Jake Miller told MB News that Manhattan Beach had 2,428 ocean rescues over the summer out of a total of 10,426 ocean rescues across the county.

This summer marked an especially busy season, with thousands of new visitors to the beach cities during the World Cup games, along with high temperatures and particularly rough surf conditions.

Across L.A. County, there were 27,082,930 visitors to the beaches this summer, according to county lifeguards. There were a total of 796,363 preventative actions; 8,017 medical responses; 9,284 emergency vehicle responses; and 297,501 ordinances enforced.

On the very hot weekend of July 24-26, as millions of visitors packed beaches across L.A. County, lifeguards performed a total of 1,950 ocean rescues, prompting them to issue warnings for beachgoers to know their limits and exercise caution.

This week, lifeguards are continuing to keep a close watch on after-effects from Hurricanes Odalys and Polo, which brought increased wave energy, stronger rip currents, and hazardous ocean conditions to county beaches.
