A couple was attacked by a pair of armed robbers in downtown Manhattan Beach on Friday night. As of Sunday afternoon, the city has said that the situation remains an active investigation.
According to a resident who is familiar with the situation and who asked to remain anonymous, a man and woman were held up at gunpoint at 8:30 p.m. at 6th and Manhattan Ave. The perpetrators were described as two men wearing ski masks, who beat the male victim and hit him in the head with the gun.
A spokesperson for the city gave Manhattan Beach News the following statement on Sunday afternoon:
"A robbery incident occurred in downtown Manhattan Beach on Friday evening. The Manhattan Beach Police Department is currently investigating the incident and doing everything possible to ensure the community’s safety. As this is an active
investigation, details cannot be shared at this time."
The incident harkens back to two brazen robberies in downtown Manhattan Beach, both at Pasha Fine Jewelry, in June 2022 and again in March 2023.
Friday's robbery renewed calls for regular uniformed foot patrols in downtown Manhattan Beach and North Manhattan Beach.
"Grabbing guns off guys on Sepulveda passing through town is not a bad thing, but it's not addressing the true vulnerabilities for residents," one resident shared with MB News. "Foot patrols may not be as cool, but in a small area like downtown, they would be highly effective.”
Residents who are interested in discussing this event and other police topics should plan to attend the next MBPD Town Hall on October 21 at 6:00 p.m. at the Joslyn Community Center.
