The Manhattan Beach Police Department will be holding a free, catalytic converter etching event in the Kinecta Federal Credit Union Parking lot located at 1440 Rosecrans Avenue in Manhattan Beach. Members of the public can get their vehicle’s vehicle identification number (VIN) etched for free on their catalytic converter without an appointment by members of the Manhattan Beach Police Department. By permanently etching the vehicle’s VIN onto the converter, it makes it more difficult for thieves to sell the stolen part without proof of ownership, and it helps law enforcement track the converter if it is stolen and recovered. The event is part of the MBPD’s ongoing commitment to reducing the theft of vehicle parts and to help identify stolen property more easily.
