Nikau Kai Waterman Shop has partnered with the Downtown Business & Professional Association and the city's Parks & Recreation Department to bring family fun to Metlox Plaza.

Summer fun is heading your way as Nikau Kai Waterman Shop and the City of Manhattan Beach Parks and Recreation Department bring the second free evening of film and outdoor family fun on Thursday, July 24 to Metlox Plaza in downtown MB as part of "The Summer Surf Movie Series."

Disney / Pixar's "Finding Nemo" will be shown on the waterfall wall in the plaza at 13th Street and Morningside Drive. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. and offers food for sale, including pizza from Manhattan Pizzeria, gelato from Bonaventura Gelato Lounge, and popcorn and drinks from Nikau Kai, staffed by the Mira Costa Surf Club.

According to organizer Jason Shanks of Nikau Kai, the idea behind the movie series was to offer a "hometown" event where people could hang out, bring the kids, and relax. "This just seemed like it fit the bill for a few of our lazy summer nights," he said.

The film series came together as a partnership between Nikau Kai, the City of Manhattan Beach, and the Downtown Manhattan Beach Business & Professionals Association. The Mira Costa Surf Boosters have also joined in to help promote the event and work the concessions stand. "I really think our community wanted something like this so, I'm stoked that folks are digging it," said Shanks.

Downtown Manhattan Beach businesses and local surf brands have donated raffle prizes, and the evening will include kids activities. Proceeds from all vendors and a raffle with go to support the Mira Costa Surf Team.

The series will conclude with one more movie (to be announced later) in August.
