Host Families Sought for EF Students

Jun 06, 2019 11:12AM ● By Jeanne Fratello
Here's an opportunity to enrich students' lives...as well as that of your own family: The South Bay Region of Education First Language Travel is looking for local families to host international students (and their adult group leaders) for two- or three-week terms during June, July, and August.

The students are between the ages of 14 and 17. They will be attending school at Marymount University in Rancho Palos Verdes at an English immersion summer camp/school on Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Education First will transport the students via private vans to and from school and the host's home.

The program dates are as follows:

Session 1A: June 13 – July 9 (Students from France, Italy, and Finland)

Session 1B: June 20 – July 9 (Students from Indonesia and France)

Session 2A: July 11 – July 30 (Students from France, China, and Spain)

Session 2B: July 18 – August 6 (Students from Hong Kong, Germany, and Italy)

Host families will receive a $110 per week stipend. They are responsible for providing their student or adult guest with three meals per day (packed lunches on school days). On the weekends, students can either do activities with the family, or participate in Education First Activities.

Education First, a world leader in international education, has more than 50 years' experience with hosting student educational travel.

Education First also provides an accommodations manager who is on hand to provide 24/7 support to the students and the host families.

"I really do recommend hosting with Education First because of the cross-cultural exchange and the possibility to create lasting relationships," said Helen Eyob, accommodations manager for the LAX Homestay Program who is coordinating South Bay host families. "As a staff member with EF for over four years, I have made lifelong friends with students."

To volunteer, or for more information, contact Helen Eyob at 213-298-1930, or [email protected] ; or Liz Spear at [email protected]
