The new Manhattan Beach Monopoly board game.

Would you rather buy Boardwalk... or the Manhattan Beach Pier? You can choose the latter, when you play the newly released Manhattan Beach-themed Monopoly game from Top Trumps.

The world’s most iconic board game, available in 114 countries and over 47 languages, now comes in a special edition that pays tribute to Manhattan Beach.

Created and manufactured by Top Trumps USA, Inc. under license from Hasbro, the official owner of the Monopoly game and brand, the Manhattan Beach version was unveiled earlier this week at Shade Hotel.

“After months in the making, our entire team is so excited to finally share what we’ve
been working so hard to capture over the past few months – how tight-knit, beautiful, friendly and energetic Manhattan Beach truly is,” said Jennifer Tripsea, partnerships manager for Top Trumps USA, Inc., in a statement.  “Just in time for the holiday season, we worked hard to incorporate all of the important feedback we received from locals to truly make this a fun game for the community.”

The Manhattan Beach Monopoly game is available online and at local retailers, including Tabula Rasa Essentials, pages: a bookstore, Gum Tree, Waterleaf Home and Gift, Bella Beach Kids, The Kettle, and Spyder Surf. The game retails for $39.99.

Manhattan Beach Icons Featured on Board

Manhattan Beach residents will easily recognize beloved icons, businesses and favorite locations that are highlighted on the board.

The Manhattan Beach Pier holds the board's most expensive piece of real estate with a bright blue square, costing four hundred Monopoly dollars to purchase.

Closely following, The Strand House occupies the second priciest square on the board at three hundred and fifty Monopoly dollars.

Iconic parks and outdoor spaces featured include Polliwog Park, Bruce's Beach, Sand Dune Park, the Strand bike path, the Light Gate Sculpture, beach volleyball courts, and lifeguard towers. The Round House Aquarium, Manhattan Beach Botanical Garden and Manhattan Beach Public Library are also important pieces of real estate on the board.

Manhattan Beach locals will recognize The Kettle, Gelson’s Market, Shade Hotel, Tabula Rasa Essentials, and the Manhattan Beach Farmers' Market on the board. And instead of railroads, you can hop on a skateboard, surfboard, beach cruiser, or rollerblades.

Even three annual events – the Tour de Pier, Hometown Fair and Charlie Saikley 6-Man Beach Volleyball Tournament are up for sale.

Last but not least, the Community and Chance cards also feature a local twist, including "Pay $50 for Surfing Lessons."

Back in the spring, manufacturers had sought input from Manhattan Beach residents about which landmarks to include.
