Manhattan Beach Student Receives Statewide Award of Merit for Artwork

Meadows Elementary first grade student Tasha Yang has won a statewide "Award of Merit" in the Visual Arts category for her artwork in the 2021/22 PTA Reflections Contest.

This year’s theme was “I Will Change The World By…”

Yang's artwork was titled “I will change the world by planting colorful trees.”

The Reflections contest is held in Manhattan Beach schools and in schools around the country beginning in the fall of each year.

Students in pre-K through grade 12 are invited to create and submit original works of art in the areas of Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography and Visual Arts.

Submissions are judged first at the school level and then at the district-wide level. The district-wide winners then move on to the statewide competition.

Chloe Kim (Mira Costa)

The 50+ year-old Reflections contest, run by national, state, and local PTA organizations, aims to help students explore their own thoughts, feelings and ideas, and develop artistic literacy and a love for learning.

Across the country, more than 300,000 students submit works to the contest each year.
