Aug 05, 2022 02:58PM ● By Mb News Staff
Manhattan Beach is set for a busy weekend with the 6-Man and Junior 6-Man volleyball tournaments, as well as a variety of International Surf Festival events.

Players and spectators, take note: There will be downtown road closures in effect all weekend. Ocean Drive will be closed between 11th and 12th Streets, and Manhattan Beach Blvd. will be closed from Manhattan Ave. down to the Manhattan Beach Pier.

Rideshare loading zones are designated on the map below.

The north and south pier parking lots will also be closed.

6-Man Tournaments

The Charlie Saikley 6-Man Beach Volleyball Tournament continues from Friday through Saturday until 5:00 p.m. The two-day event brings together teams of six competitors with spirited revelry and unique costumes. Competitive categories include men's open, women's open, men's 40+, men's 50+, and women's masters 35+.

As the premier 6-man beach volleyball tournament in Southern California, it draws as many as 50,000 spectators each year.

The Junior 6-Man Beach Volleyball Tournament will be held on Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. The junior tournament gives kids ages 16 and under an opportunity to dress up with their friends, have fun, showcase their skills and prepare them to play in the 6-Man Beach Volleyball Tournament in the future.

International Surf Festival Events

The International Surf Festival will be continuing all weekend in the beach cities, with several events occurring in Manhattan Beach.

Sunday morning's activities will kick off with the Velzy-Stevens Paddleboard Race, starting at 7:30 a.m., which brings paddlers from the Manhattan Beach Pier to the Hermosa Beach Pier.

That race is followed by the Dwight Crum Pier to Pier Swim, which begins at the Hermosa Beach Pier at 9:00 a.m. and ends at the Manhattan Beach Pier. The race is one of the most popular long distance swims in the United States. In 2021, 1141 swimmers completed the two-plus-mile course.

All sandcastles must be completed by 9:30 a.m.; prizes will be announced at 10:00 a.m.
