The Manhattan Beach Department of Parks and Recreation hosted the 60th annual Sandcastle Design Contest at the International Surf Festival and declared its winners on Sunday.

The winners of the Junior group (ages 5-10 years old) were the "Nobody's" of Redondo Beach with "Hogwarts Castle."

In the All Open group, first place went to "The Denny Dynasty" of Redondo Beach with "Sea Creatures" (cover photo). Second place went to "The Sandman" of PV, a multi-generational family team who built a giant castle, and third place went to "The Forest" from Hermosa Beach, a mother and son team who built a sand volcano.

This year marks a special return for the contest, after having been on hiatus for the past two years. Other results from the Surf Festival weekend can be found here

(This sandcastle contest is not to be confused with the sandcastle contest being run by the Roundhouse Aquarium. Voting on that contest will run through August 14.
