Santa Stroll Expects 1,000 Santas

Dec 08, 2022 10:06AM ● By Jeanne Fratello
There may be as many as 1,000 Santas on the Strand on Saturday morning - and you could be one of them.

The California Great Santa Stroll - benefiting Mychal's Learning Place - is a 5K fun run, walk, or stroll along the Strand from the Hermosa Beach Pier to Manhattan Beach and back. It begins at 9:00 a.m. on December 10.

Building on the success of the 2021 event where more than 600 “Santas” participated, nearly 1,000 participants are expected this year. The event benefits Mychal’s Learning Place, a beloved local nonprofit supporting youth and young adults with developmental disabilities on their path to lead a more independent life.

“This festive event is the perfect way to get your family into the holiday spirit while benefiting
a wonderful cause. The best part is seeing all of our Mychal’s Learning Place students out here
working and helping to raise awareness for the place so many of them call 'home,'” said
Suzanne Karger, chairperson for The California Great Santa Stroll.

How do you get to be a Santa? You can register here. The first 750 registrants will receive a Santa suit (for adults) or festive Santa shirt (for children). Registration costs $45 for adults, $20 for kids, and $15 for pups and pets.

The event will also feature photos with Santa on the Manhattan Beach Santa Float, the Kinecta Ice Cream Truck, Mychal’s Bakery coffee and baked goods, face painting and photo opportunities galore.

Registration packets and Santa Suits will be available for pickup today and Friday between 8:30 a.m. and  4:00 p.m. at Mychal's Learning Place, 4901 W. Rosecrans Ave. in Hawthorne.

This year's fundraising goal is $160,000. To contribute, visit SantaStroll2022.funraise.org.
