Mira Costa High School sent off the 619 members its Class of 2024 on Thursday night, to cheers and well-wishes from family and community members.
Mira Costa does not have a valedictorian, but it does provide Magna (3.8 - 3.99) and Summa Cum (4.0+) Laude honors.
This year there were 81 Magna Cum Laude and 282 Summa Cum Laude recipients.

Student speakers included senior class president Caden Coons, along with Sienna Llorens and Devan Malik.
Coons launched his speech with a retelling of a humiliating tale from elementary school involving Spongebob underwear (watch the livestream below to hear it).
"As we go out in the world it is inevitable that we will embarrass ourselves again, but don't forget that every moment of humiliation is matched by a moment of pride. I encourage everyone here to embrace the embarrassment... Feel empowered to use your experience to your advantage and think of all the memories you've made and lessons you've learned as a tool that will help you achieve whatever you set out to do," said Coons. "Take pride in who you are even if it means embarrassing yourself along the way."

Following the ceremony, the graduates carried on Manhattan Beach's tradition (since 2020) of a "Sunset Stroll in the Sand;" culminating with the entire class tossing their hats in the air at the Manhattan Beach Pier.
