For the second weekend of the "Twelve Days of Halloween" in Manhattan Beach, the fall and Halloween celebrations continued.

The weekend's activities included a haunted house and Halloween festival at Manhattan Beach Community Church, a 75th anniversary fair at Trinity Lutheran Church, and Manhattan Beach's 5th annual Halloween golf cart parade.

MBCC Haunted House Thrills Crowds

At Manhattan Beach Community Church, a line formed outside the entrance of the haunted house for the popular attraction.

Coordinator Steve Norris told MB News that it took a total of 160 volunteers to create the production, including 40 actors from five local theaters. Scenery, lighting, and sound experts came from as far as Northridge and San Clemente to assist with the production.

The fair also included free games, snacks, music and a "quiet room" with Halloween movies.

Trinity Lutheran Marks 75 Years

At Trinity Lutheran Church, parishioners and community members gathered on Sunday in honor of the church's three-quarter-century mark. The event featured Trinity's famous Pepperbellies (of Hometown Fair fame), live music, and games and face painting for children.

"We hope that this celebration is not just about Trinity but about care and connection with the larger community for these many years," said Pastor Douglas Barclay.

Golf Carts Bring Out Local Creativity

And Sunday's golf cart parade drew nearly 20 vehicles (counting some decorated cars and bikes).

Organizer Shawn Giaconi noted that it was the 6th anniversary of the parade, which started in 2019. "Of course, [in 2020] that was COVID, and we didn't have sports, and there were a lot fewer activities, so there were a lot more carts that came out. But what we have here is the perfect amount," she told the crowd.

The winning "Fan Favorite" cart was a 101 Dalmations-themed golf cart, with Brandon and Bre Hance and the Hance family. (See lead photo above.) The group won a $100 King Claw gift card for their efforts.

Winning for the best group cart was a pirate-themed cart by the Sklash and Cunningham families, with the prize of a $50 Manhattan Beach Creamery gift card.

And the "Cutest Animal Costume" went to Brenda O'Leary's pumpkin-clad pup, earning a $50 Gelato & Angels gift card.
