Capping off a week of transitions across the city, the Manhattan Beach Unified School District's Board of Trustees on Wednesday night said farewells and installed two members for a new term.
Board members thanked departing member Bruce Greenberg, and swore in returning member Cathey Graves and new member Jen Dohner.
With the reorganization, the MBUSD board now consists of Wysh Weinstein, Tina Shivpuri, and Jen Fenton, Graves, and Dohner.
Weinstein will now take the helm as president, Shivpuri will serve as vice president, Dohner will serve as clerk, and Superintendent John Bowes will continue as secretary to the board.
Shivpuri was named to represent MBUSD on the Los Angeles County School Trustees Association Board and Dohner will represent MBUSD on the Los Angeles
County Committee on School District Organization.
Greenberg Thanked for Service
Greenberg, who was appointed in February 2023 to serve out the term of Jason Boxer, was praised by fellow members for his dedicated service.
"I appreciate so much the time you have put into this position," Graves told him. "I am so grateful for the emphasis you have put on academics and supporting our students."
Graves added that Greenberg did an "amazing amount of research" to learn more about what other districts are doing, to look at analytics, and to stay tuned in to community members' issues.
"You push forward, you look at every angle, you’ve got a big heart," she said.

Greenberg gave effusive thanks to a long list of people whom he credited with making MBUSD an outstanding district: the teachers, the PTA Council, MBX and the booster clubs, and MBEF and its board.
During his time on the school board, he said, "I learned so much, and came to appreciate so much about what makes this community of MBUSD so remarkable."
Graves, Dohner Sworn In
Also at the meeting, the two newly elected board members were sworn in. Graves, who took office in 2020, was re-elected for a second term, and Dohner is serving her first term.

Board members took the time to thank Graves for her service, especially for taking on the role of board president twice.
"You bring so much to this role," Greenberg told her. "You are thoughtful and methodical and detail oriented - and so focused on the ultimate goal, which is the students. This district is so fortunate for the decision you made to serve for another four years."
"I am just surrounded by amazing, talented people - intelligent, thoughtful; everyone with the goal to do all we can for the students," said Graves. "It's hard to say no when you’re surrounded by that."
