Costa Students Raise $7K for Wildfire Relief at 'Costa Cares'

Despite the rain on Sunday, Mira Costa students galvanized their clubs and teams and collectively raised more than $7000 at its "Costa Cares" wildfire relief event.
The event, which was moved inside because of the weather, nevertheless
drew more than 200 people. The funds will go toward L.A. Regional Food
Bank, American Red Cross, L.A. Wildfires Disaster Relief, and Pasadena
Humane Society.
All told, approximately 36 student organizations participated in Costa Cares. Attractions included a raffle with such items as an Amazon
Echo, a JBL speaker, coolers, water bottles, gift cards, aquarium
tickets, designer sunglasses, and more. Students also sold pizza, baked goods, Noah's bagels,
candy, snacks, and handmade crocheted items. Activities included rock painting, face painting, a make-your-own-pencil-bag station, and friendship bracelet making.
"We’re super glad with how well it turned out," Henry Michael, the student body vice president for ASB, told MB News.
Michael added that the $7,000 figure would grow higher once donations from a ComedySportz match, a “dollar-a-day” imitative, and a Drama Tech benefit were added to the total.
"It looked like people had a lot of fun because there was really
something for everyone to enjoy," said Analise Ornstein, a Link Crew and Heart Club member who ran a gluten-free bake sale for the fundraiser. "Hopefully Costa continues to hold
diverse club/organization events like this one because the student body
and staff really did come together to create something amazing."
Students have said that Costa Cares was possibly the largest entirely student-led fundraising event at the school in recent memory.
