A motorcyclist was involved in a near-fatal accident on Sepulveda Blvd. at Manhattan Beach Boulevard on Sunday.
Witnesses said the motorcyclist, headed southbound on Sepulveda, appeared to have swerved to avoid cars that had just stopped as the light turned red, and then skidded out of control. The intersection was completely shut down while the investigation was conducted.
Manhattan Beach police released the following statement about the accident:
On June 1st, 2025, at approximately 5:43 p.m., Manhattan Beach Police Department officers responded to a report of a traffic collision involving a motorcycle at the intersection of Manhattan Beach Boulevard and Sepulveda Boulevard. The rider was transported to a nearby trauma center with life-threatening injuries.
We are aware of a video of the collision circulating on social media. This investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact Traffic Officer Michael Boyes at (310)802-5095.
Sepulveda Blvd. has been the site of multiple fatal accidents along Sepulveda Blvd. south of Manhattan Beach Blvd. in the past six months.
That includes the death of Loyola High School senior Levi Braun in the 100 block of South Sepulveda in May 2025, the death of Mira Costa High School senior Ford Savela in the 300 block of North Sepulveda in January 2025, and the death of pedestrian Michael Kawasaki in the 900 block of North Sepulveda in December 2024.
Residents have called for increased safety measures along Sepulveda such as additional
and ongoing DUI checkpoints, more lighted pedestrian crossings, red
light cameras, speed enforcement cameras, de-synchronizing the red
lights to reduce speeds, or even pedestrian overpasses.
