Mira Costa High School Celebrates Graduating Class of 2025

Jun 13, 2025 07:25PM ● By Siena Giacoma

More than 600 students from Mira Costa High School graduated Thursday evening during a formal ceremony at Waller Stadium, marking the culmination of their high school careers. The event was attended by school administrators, board members, district staff, and city officials from Manhattan Beach. Families and friends filled the stands, joining in recognition of the Class of 2025’s achievements.

Of this year's 648 graduates, 69 received the Magna Cum Laude designation (3.8-3.99 GPA) and 298 received the Summa Cum Laude designation (4.0+ GPA).

Early in the ceremony, senior Jared Manasse performed the national anthem with a guitar rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Later, the school's graduating music students came together to sing the Mira Costa alma mater, marking their final performance as high school musicians.

Class President Michael Butler blended humor and nostalgia in his speech. Referencing lyrics from Macklemore’s Good Old Days, Butler reflected on the importance of remembering the small, everyday moments that defined high school life.

Student speaker Eva Asiddao took a more serious tone, delivering a speech focused on the responsibility young people have in shaping their future. She urged her fellow graduates to engage with the world thoughtfully and actively. “Change the world” she said, “but do so with peace, love, and an intolerance for hate.” Her message earned a strong response from the audience.

Each graduate wore a pin in honor of Ford Savela, a member of the Class of 2025 who was killed in a hit-and-run earlier this year. One of the most poignant moments of the evening came when Chase Savela, Ford’s older brother, walked across the stage to accept his diploma. A moment of silence preceded the applause that followed, as the crowd rose in recognition.

Following the formal ceremony, graduates upheld a local tradition by walking down the Manhattan Beach Strand, ending at the pier. There, surrounded by friends, family, and community members, they gathered for one last act of unity and tossed their caps into the air one final time.
