The 48th running of the Manhattan Beach 10K was the largest to date, with more than 3,600 finishers completing the course on Saturday morning.
Finishing first for the men was Miles Jones of Half Moon Bay, CA, with a time of 32:04.04. Abby Hong of Manhattan Beach came in first for the women - repeating her victory from last year - in a time of 34:52.95. (Hong was #10 overall among all runners.)
Rounding out the men's leaders were Owen Franck of Manhattan Beach in 32:19.14 and Christian Moreno of Torrance in 32:24.98. Finishing in second and third for the women were Bri Ilarda of Los Angeles in 35:05.99 and Melanie Griffith of Soldotna, Alaska in 35:19.09.
The oldest finisher was Richard Maynard of Manhattan Beach, age 90, who finished the race in 1:36:55.98.
Brenda Haky of Manhattan Beach, age 86, was the oldest female finisher in 2:06:13.16.
The race also featured more than two dozen P.I.E.R ("Participated in Every Race") runners, an elite group of individuals who have run every race since the MB 10K started in 1978. These runners, most of whom are in their 70s and 80s, are given special t-shirts and gift bags honoring their ongoing commitment to the race.
Neighbors Show Support
MB 10K spectators, known for their enthusiastic spirit, did not disappoint this year. Community members lined the streets cheering and encouraging runners with inspiring and tongue-in-cheek signs.

A handful of bands played along the course, with styles ranging from steel drum to classic rock.

And just like every year, following the race expo, Shellback Tavern offered itself up as the premier destination for a post-race beer.
