The Manhattan Beach community shed thousands of pounds of e-waste on Saturday, thanks to a collaborative recycling drive between the city and Mira Costa students.
The successful e-waste
recycling event was hosted by the student-run nonprofit eBridge Recycling in partnership with the city of Manhattan Beach, the
Manhattan Beach Library, and EcoSpot Recycling.
The drive resulted carloads of electronic waste, including dozens of
laptops, multiple televisions, thousands of batteries, and hundreds of
cables.
EcoSpot Recycling recycles the materials collected at the drive and then returns the proceeds to eBridge Recycling. The proceeds are then donated to the Music to
the Ears Foundation, supporting youth education and access to
technology and learning resources.
“The event reflects our
commitment to not only recycling responsibly but also providing
educational opportunities to underserved communities,” said Mira Costa junior Ryan
Beaupain, founder of eBridge Recycling. “We’re thrilled with the turnout
and the positive impact we’re making together.”
eBridge
Recycling draws student volunteers from Mira Costa's Digital Philanthropy Club. Its goal is to bridge the "digital divide" between consumers whose e-waste ends up in landfills, and those who lack access
to devices that are increasingly necessary for education.
