Mira Costa High School boys' athletics has been awarded the prestigious CIF-Southern Section Commissioner's Cup, after winning a series of section-wide championships during the 2025-2026 season.

This year marks the first time since the creation of the Commissioner's Cup in 1991 that Mira Costa has brought home the award.

Mira Costa earned the honor with Division 1 championship titles in baseball, lacrosse, volleyball, and track and field. The school's boys' teams were also semi-finalists in water polo and took fourth place in cross country.

In the competition for the Commissioner's Cup, Loyola came in second place and Mater Dei took third place on the boys' side; while Santa Margarita and JSerra took first and second place on the girls' side.

"We applaud the accomplishments of these programs due to their hard work dedication that has resulted in their success," said Mike West, CIF-SS commissioner of athletics, in a statement.

Winners are determined by a point system that awards five points for a divisional championship, four points for a divisional runner-up, two points for advancing to the semi-final round or a third place finish on a team place finish sport (such as cross country), and one point for a fourth-place finish in a team-place finish sport.

MIra Costa earned 23 points together, and edged past Loyola through tie-breaker rules.

The Southern Section is the largest of the CIF's section, encompassing most of Southern California except for the city of Los Angeles and the San Diego region. It consists of 569 schools and 82 leagues (Mira Costa is part of the Bay League).
