Don't Miss Your Chance for the MB10K

Sep 22, 2025 10:30PM ● By Jeanne Fratello

And they're off! The MB10K began in its traditional spot on Ardmore Ave.

One of Manhattan Beach's oldest and most popular traditions - the MB10K - is 95% sold out right now. If you want to get in before it sells out (there's no race-day registration), now's your chance.

The race, now in its 48th year, will take place on Saturday, October 4, with more than 4,000 participants. The current entry fee is $45 for ages 15 and over, and $40 for ages 14 and under. Prices will go up by $5 as of Friday, September 26.

Register for the race online here. In-store race registration is also available at Village Runner Manhattan Beach.

An All-Volunteer-Run Race

The MB10K is the largest "pure" 10K in California (meaning only a 10K run, no other races) and has been ranked as one of the top 100 road races in the United States. Of those top 100, it is the only one without a corporate sponsor, thanks to its all-volunteer race committee. Its only source of income is the runners' entry fees. This is also the 3rd straight year that the MB10k has been designated as a RRCA California 10K State Championship race.

A time-honored MB10K tradition is for the race committee to donate all proceeds directly back to the community in the form of health and fitness enhancements to the recreation facilities of local schools and parks, local school booster clubs; as well as scholarships to Manhattan Beach high school seniors.

Specific MB 10K projects have included Mira Costa High School track refurbishing, an exercise facility at the Manhattan Beach Middle School, a climbing wall at Manhattan Heights Park, Strand mile markers, a play structure at Polliwog Park and artificial turf at AYSO field on Marine.

The race is replete with other longstanding traditions as well. An elite cadre of runners known as the P.I.E.R. runners (Participated In Every Race) have run all 46 of the past MB10K races. Those men and women - most of whom are now in their 70s and 80s - are treated as V.I.P.s at the race.

Along with runners of all ages from Manhattan Beach who run and walk through the 6.2 mile course, community groups and local bands traditionally line the race course to hand out water and boost runners' morale with cheers and music. The post-race expo features a variety of snacks, samples, giveaways, and activities for runners and their families.

Although the race is run separately from the Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair, it traditionally falls on the same weekend. This year's Hometown Fair will be held on October 4 and 5 along the Greenbelt by Live Oak park.
