A rare September storm hit Manhattan Beach had on Sunday, causing power outages citywide and resulting in the cancellation of the popular Sunday concert in Polliwog Park. 

Although Manhattan Beach and much of Los Angeles avoided the brunt of Hurricane Marie, the storm still brought 0.72 inches of rain to town on Sunday, representing nearly 15% of the total rain for the year. 

The power outage stalled out much activity in town, affecting traffic lights at major intersections. Downtown merchants and restaurants lost power and many closed down for the day. Power outages also affected Target and Manhattan Village, including Ralph's, causing temporary shutdowns. 

As of Monday morning, many merchants had gotten power back, but major traffic lights remained out, including traffic lights on Manhattan Beach Blvd. in three major locations - at Manhattan Ave., Highland Ave. and Sepulveda. 

The rain also caused the cancellation of the popular Sunday afternoon concert at Polliwog Park featuring an ABBA tribute band. A statement from the city noted that although the rain was stopping, the ground was still too wet to accommodate the event safely. (Note that the pond at Polliwog Park in Manhattan Beach serves as a retention basin for Los Angeles County and is designed to flood, storing storm water during heavy rains.)

Also in East Manhattan Beach, Adventureplex closed its doors and cancelled all activities for Monday and Tuesday due to a building leak caused by the rain.
